Geography and Modern & Contemporary History studies in Freiburg and Madrid; PhD awarded by the LMU Munich in February 2014, dissertation on the history of storm floods in Hamburg (Title: "Erinnerungsfluten. Das Sturmhochwasser von 1962 im Gedächtnis der Stadt Hamburg", with the highest distinction, “summa cum laude”, supervised by Prof. Dr. Helmuth Trischler).
